FACTORY

Diastr - make a night of it - just in case it’s our last night on earth ….

Diastr - the event - is just six days away!!!

Some people have been wondering what to expect - and the answer is ‘expect the unexpected!’ …. but what is certain is that there is a full evenings entertainment on offer.

Alongside painting and sculpture from the edge of the abyss, there will be a rolling program of spoken word, live sounds, film and collective art between 8.30 and midnight. There are two themed bars, a lounge area to relax in, a circus of characters roaming the gallery -priests, burlesque girls, pantomine horses and maybe even a fat naked lady.

The events will be constantly disrupted by the apocalyptic game itself  - Diastr - which everyone will have the chance to participate in. And, then when the programmed events end at midnight, DJs from the RED collective take over until late.

So is it an exhibition? is it a performance? is it a club? is it a chance to meet with friends? Its all of these things and more …..  How could you miss it??

Saturday 27th November - doors 8.30pm - Phoenix Gallery (opposite St. Peter’s Church)

Entry £4 (£3)

FACTORY presents DIASTR Saturday 27th November 8:30pm - 1:30am AT PHOENIX BRIGHTON PRESS RELEASE Disaster: an event or accident that causes great distress or destruction. A Disaster is also a complete failure. Diastr: an accidental event that explores creativity on the brink of great distress, impending failure and possible destruction. Phoenix Brighton’s quarterly Factory event brings yet another eclectic experience, this time in the form of unfolding fun, games, music and uncertainty! Diastr is both an exhibition and a game created by Tim Cole and Theo Lamarche with a giant interactive home-made rotating board with optional paths and destinations. Along the way players are subjected to world changing disastrous events, triggering live sound effects and apocalyptic encounters. Every person entering Diastr will have the opportunity to be involved, having their hand stamped with one of four colours representing the four teams playing the game. A live performance of Diastr will evolve throughout the night, featuring 4 players and a games master; each team can have a player for the entire session but team mates can swap and change throughout the evening as the going gets tough and the game unfolds… who knows what will happen! The excitement will be filmed and a live stream will be projected into the gallery as a backdrop to a hotbed of both experimental and conventional music and performances, which in turn will be projected into the games room. The walls of the Gallery will feature images and sculptures produced by artists in response to the theme of disaster. Economic gloom, ecological catastrophe … Diastr is the last Phoenix event of the year and of the decade … Game on! Tickets: £4/3 For further information, interview opportunities and images contact Belinda Greenhalgh on 01273 603 700 ext.201 Email info@phoenixbrighton.org Phoenix Brighton, 10-14 Waterloo Place, Brighton, BN2 9NB http://www.phoenixbrighton.org

Factory Update

Just under a week to go before the ground floor of Phoenix is turned into a mini arts festival and a magazine production office. Sets are being built and projections designed. Dancers and musicians are coming in and out of the gallery to check out the space and a huge canvas is being made to go on one of the walls. 25 artists involved plus the magazine production crew and there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and become a journalist or a painter for the night (or just hang out in the bar). We think this is going to be a top night so please help us get the word out there!

FACTORY PRESENTS Wall Into Pieces by Boca2Mouth

Saturday 4th September / 8pm-2am / Phoenix Brighton

Following the previous success of Phoenix’s FACTORY series comes a night from Boca2Mouth to look forward to.

‘Wall into Pieces’ is a large scale art event with an amazing line-up of experimental performances and music documented by a team of writers and photographers to create a magazine in real time.

The magazine will incorporate pieces of a wall (a large canvas will be hung) painted by artists who will invite the audience to participate and collaborate in the creation of this work of art.

There will be four bands in the gallery, one in each corner, playing both individually and collectively alongside performances, dancers, projections and sound and video installations, as well as a themed bar to keep the creative juices flowing.

Meanwhile the magazine production office will see a continuous flow of interviews and photographers documenting the event, the audience being encouraged to assist with editing and constructing the magazine which will be available at the end of the evening.

Tickets: £6/5
